Jarryd Elias | Bio
Jarryd Elias (b. 1993) is an award-winning, multi-faceted composer, actively scoring film and television music. In addition to his composition career, he is an active member of high-level music departments, serving an orchestrator or copyist on projects such as Deadpool 2, S.W.A.T. (2017-), The Spy Who Dumped Me, Shaft (2019), and The Boys.
Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Jarryd began his musical journey as a percussionist, playing in a multitude of settings, ranging from classical symphonic settings to rock and jazz bands. He continued on with his percussion education at the Eastman School of Music (2015), earning a Bachelors in Percussion Performance under world-renown percussionist and composer Michael Burritt. Soon after, Jarryd’s interest was drawn towards composition, and traveled to Seattle to earn his Masters in Film Scoring at the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program (2017), studying composition with two-time Emmy winner Hummie Mann.
Jarryd’s composition work has received critical acclaim - two of his short film scores (Hard Turn and Enchanted, LLC) have gone on to win best original score awards at various festivals, and his work on Rolling Across America, an upcoming DocuSeries from No Limits Media, received a nomination for the 2018 Jerry Goldsmith Soundtrack Awards. For television, Jarryd has written music for Chrissley Knows Best, Dancing Queen, Sell It Like Serhant, and various TV Movies airing on the Lifetime network. Jarryd’s concert works for percussion as well as orchestra have received honors as well. In 2018, Jarryd received the Luminosity Orchestra’s Young Composers award for his composition The Rain Maker: Suite for Orchestra. His percussion compositions are performed regularly around the world, and one of which, Hero’s Journey (written for solo Timpani and electronic playback), is a recurring repertoire option for the Italy Percussive Arts Society Timpani competition.
When not writing original scores, Jarryd serves as a member of various music departments in the Hollywood music industry. Some of which include working as an orchestrator on projects like Deadpool 2, The Spy Who Dumped Me, S.W.A.T. (2017-), and Timeless, as well as serving as a copyist for Steve Juliani Music, working on scores for Christopher Lennertz (Shaft, The Boys) and Austin Wintory (The Banner Saga 3).
