While I was writing !UP!, I felt that I had hit a wall. I was worried about whether it would be ‘sophisticated’ enough – but that’s when the inspiration hit me. A piece of music doesn’t have to be deep and philosophical. It is about what the music means and what emotions it can invoke in any one person. For me, the composer, the music makes me happy! This piece is written and dedicated to my parents Shauna and Richard Elias, for giving me the fuel and the drive for me to be able to achieve what I am passionate about, which in turn, makes me happy. I cannot thank you two enough for you endless support and love during my four years of study at the Eastman School of Music.
