Upon starting my composing for Voyage, I was thinking a lot about who we are as people, and how lives are lived. The one thing that stays constant as we make every decision is our identity: what makes us, us if you will. That’s what I decided to embody in this solo vibraphone piece. The repeated melody line is representative of one’s soul, and it carries on throughout the piece. Although the rhythmic notation is the same, the tonality changes from section to section, and the F-Ab-D melody can be heard throughout, although in some parts it may be hidden.
